TV made me do it

There are two people in this world. Those who watch tv and those who don't. There's this smugness about the latter category though, that can be likened to the debate between omnivores and vegetarians.

I think comedian Jim Gaffigan hit this weird attitude right on the money:
person 1:"I haven't eaten meat in 4 years!"
person 2:"Well, I haven't eaten a banana in 3 months, but you don't see me bragging about it." Anyway, non-tv watchers are like the vegetarians. People who revel in their sacrifices.

It's a two-edged sword. Too much tv makes you lazy, apethetic, and an irritating pop-culture parrot, whereas finding other stuff to fill your time can make you smug and pompous, and perhaps make you do things you'd rather not admit to doing (like making crocheted sea-creatures).

I'm going to have to admit that I am one of those people that enjoys (and lets others know how much he enjoys) not watching television. I mostly collect episodes of my favorite shows (MST3K, Tom Green, etc) and watch them on my computer, but the tv in my room is collecting dust metropolises. I just never sit down and think "I have nothing to do, so I'll watch tv".

But I totally agree with you on the vegetarians, I work at a health food store, they don't shut up.
